Is Your Emergency Plan Ready for a Real Emergency?

Is Your Emergency Plan Ready for a Real Emergency?

September is National Preparedness Month, making it a great time to take a fresh look at your organization’s emergency preparedness plans.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) emphasizes that effective emergency preparedness begins with identifying potential hazards and developing a plan to maintain essential services during an emergency. Preparedness also means training staff on their roles, testing the plan, and revising it when gaps are identified.

This month, ask yourself:

  • Are our plans current?

  • Do staff know their roles and responsibilities?

  • Can we communicate if normal systems fail?

  • Have we tested our plans recently?

  • What gaps have we identified?

A plan is only useful if your organization is prepared to put it into action.

Take time this National Preparedness Month to review, test, and strengthen your plan before you need it.
