The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), released its Healthcare & Public Health Sector Hurricane Season Preparedness Update on July 29, 2026. The official update provides healthcare and public health organizations with preparedness resources, guidance, and key information for the 2026 hurricane season.

Now is the time for healthcare organizations to review their plans and make sure staff are ready to respond.

CHUG recommends checking:

  • Emergency plans: Are your hurricane procedures up to date?

  • Communication: Do staff know how they'll communicate if normal systems fail?

  • Evacuation & shelter-in-place: Are your plans and resources ready?

  • Continuity: Can you maintain essential services if utilities, supplies, or access are disrupted?
