Virtual Reality Is Changing the Hospice Experience
For hospice patients and families, having access to nostalgic experiences can sometimes be hindered by the patient’s health challenges. Now, with Virtual Reality (VR), patients are getting a dose of nostalgia and “firsts” in a brand new, interactive way.
“Patients are able to visit a childhood home or neighborhood, or virtually engage in activities like skiing or horseback riding, with families and friends able to view their experiences through a large TV screen.”
— Jennifer Fenuccio, volunteer coordinator at Brookhaven Hospice
Initially met with skepticism, there has been a tremendous positive shift toward incorporating VR in end-of-life care settings. Adding VR technology has been shown to improve quality of life, especially for seriously and terminally ill patients.
