Energy Company Creating Safer Florida Communities Before Storm Season

As the storm season looms, Duke Energy Foundation is stepping up to help Florida residents and agencies strengthen their emergency readiness. In early June 2025, the Foundation awarded $163,000 in grants to 12 local organizations, funding critical tools like AEDs, CPR training, storm kits tailored for seniors, upgraded weather monitoring technology, and essential supplies for emergency shelters. This proactive investment highlights the importance of year-round preparedness, long before storm clouds gather.

This effort underscores a vital takeaway: emergency preparedness isn’t something you check off once; it’s an ongoing process. Families can take a cue by assembling their own kits, staying informed with tools like the Red Cross Emergency app, and keeping open lines of communication with local agencies. When all levels of the community, from energy foundations to individual households, prioritize readiness, we build resilience that can save lives and livelihoods when the next hurricane or storm arrives.

“We are grateful for the ongoing collaboration and commitment of our first responders, emergency management officials and community agencies to prepare, plan and engage our communities. We have been through enough storms to know that being prepared is our best defense.”

The key to successfully mitigating any emergency is preparedness. CHUG members have access to a comprehensive suite of educational workshops that utilize real-life case studies to teach effective responses to emergency situations. This training can be lifesaving.
